How to Upload a SCORM Course to ProProfs Training Maker

Uploading SCORM courses allows you to transfer ready-made training materials directly into ProProfs without reformatting them. ProProfs supports both SCORM 1.2 and SCORM 2004 standards, ensuring your course structure, quizzes, and tracking settings stay functional after upload.

Why This Matters

  • Reuse SCORM Content Without Rebuilding – SCORM courses made in tools like Articulate or Captivate can be uploaded directly, keeping your original design, quizzes, and tracking intact.

  • Save Time on Setup – Instead of recreating courses manually, you can simply upload a SCORM file and make it available to learners immediately.

  • Track Learner Progress Seamlessly – ProProfs reads SCORM tracking data automatically, giving you detailed insights into learner completion, scores, and time spent.

Use Case Example

Suppose your previous LMS used SCORM 1.2 courses built in Articulate 360. Instead of redesigning everything, you upload these courses directly into ProProfs and start training new hires without losing interactive elements or progress tracking.

Best practices for uploading SCORM courses

  • Check SCORM version compatibility: ProProfs supports SCORM 1.2 and SCORM 2004. Make sure your course file matches one of these versions before uploading.

  • Keep file size manageable: Large SCORM files may take longer to upload and affect course loading speed. Try to keep your course packages under 500 MB whenever possible.

  • Use clear page titles: When uploading, choose a simple, descriptive page title. It helps learners and admins identify the course easily later.

  • Test your course after upload: Once you upload the SCORM course, preview it inside ProProfs to check that navigation, quizzes, and completion settings work as expected.

  • Avoid spaces in file names: Use hyphens (-) or underscores (_) instead of spaces in your SCORM file name to reduce the risk of upload errors.

FAQs

How do I check if my SCORM file is compatible with ProProfs?
Before exporting your course, open your authoring tool’s publishing settings (e.g., "Publish" in Articulate, "Publish Settings" in Captivate, "Output Format" in Spring). Look for an option called "SCORM version" or "LMS format." Make sure it’s set to either SCORM 1.2 or SCORM 2004, as ProProfs supports these.

Can I update a SCORM course after uploading it?
Yes. You can replace the SCORM content inside a course by uploading a new SCORM file. However, please note that learner progress from the earlier version will not automatically carry over to the updated course unless the SCORM identifiers remain exactly the same.

Will ProProfs capture quiz scores and course completion from my SCORM file?
Yes. Once your SCORM course is uploaded, ProProfs automatically tracks quiz scores, course completion status, time spent on the course, and pass/fail results. You can view these details in the learner’s SCORM report.

What should I do if my SCORM course is stuck during upload?
First, check if your SCORM zip file is too large (ideally keep it under 500 MB). If it’s large, compress images and videos inside your authoring tool before publishing again. Also, avoid using special characters, spaces, or long names in your SCORM file name, as these can sometimes cause upload issues.
